《일상의 의식들; 4개의 지구(Daily Rituals: Four Earths)》는 일상생활에서 현대인들의 소비와 탄소발자국 사이의 관계, 그리고 한국과 영국의 청년들 사이의 기후변화에 대한 문화적 인식 차이를 학제간 협업을 통해 탐구하는 한-영 협력 프로젝트이다.
Daily Rituals: Four Earths is a collaborative and interdisciplinary project that explores the relationship between our carbon footprint, consumption in our daily rituals, and the cultural differences between young people in Korea and the UK.
이번 전시는 한국과 영국의 19세에서 34세 사이 청년들의 일상적 소비활동을 기록한 다큐멘터리를 최첨단 방식으로 재구성한 두 개의 영상 작품을 선보인다. 전시장 내에는 한국의 이진준 교수(KAIST 문화기술대학원)와 그가 이끄는 TX Lab이 제작한 3D 그래픽 비디오 〈바람의 소리를 들어라〉(2022)와 영국의 케빈 워커 교수(코벤트리 대학교)와 아티스트그룹 D-Fuse가 작년 영국문화원 프로젝트 《아홉 개의 지구》를 기반으로 작업한 민족지학적 다큐멘터리 필름 〈네 개의 지구〉(2022)가 동시 상영된다.
The exhibition presents two artworks that reconstruct footage of the daily consumption activities of young people between the ages of 19 and 34 in Korea and the UK with creative methods. One is Hear the Voice of Wind (2022), a 3D graphic video created by Prof. Jinjoon Lee (KAIST, Graduate School of Culture Technology) and TX creative media lab in Korea, and the other is Daily Rituals (2022), a visual ethnographic film, based on the successful British Council commission Nine Earths (2021) created by Prof. Kevin Walker (Coventry University) and an artist group D-Fuse in the UK.
또한 유네스코 인류무형문화유산으로 등재된 ‘제주 칠머리당 영등굿’을 내레이션으로 엮어 프로젝트의 폭을 확장하였다. 작품을 통해 재해석된 제주도 굿 사운드는 전시장 내부에 울려 퍼지며 두 나라 현대인들의 소비 양상과 환경파괴를 비추는 데이터 파편들과 교차한다. 삶을 좌우하는 자연에의 존중과 환경과 인간의 공존을 나타내는 사운드는 지구 생태계와 상호작용하며 연결된 인간의 삶과 위치를 상기시킨다.
At the exhibition, the sound of Jeju Chilmeoridang Yeongdeunggut (designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage) used in the artwork adds another layer to the project. The sound from Hear the Voice of Wind that reinterprets the traditional song of Jeju Island manifests a reverence for nature and a wish for coexistence between the environment and humans. It interacts with the data which reflects anthropocentric ways of living in the two countries while evoking an awareness of human position interconnected with all the living things on the Earth.

Why Four Earths?
Currently, Korea consumes four times the resources our planet can generate each year, and the United Kingdom consumes 2.6 times. Both are too much.
How we work
We have filmed young people in Korea and the UK to create an ethnographic film, and a 3D film featuring the songs and narration of Jeju shamans. Both premiere in live events in Korea and the UK in November 2022.
Our collaboration between art, technology, and science allows for representing the lived experiences of people confronting climate change first-hand. We want to ensure that younger voices are heard and given support through this project to have their stories shared and highlighted within the climate conversation.
Who we are
Four Earths was created by Artebah in Seoul, with D-Fuse in the UK, in collaboration with the TX Lab of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

Artebah (CEO, Yuju Choi) is a cultural and artistic social venture company that builds cooperative relationships with domestic and foreign artists based on art branding expertise and creates sustainable business from a global perspective. D-Fuse is a collective of audiovisual innovators working with environmental storytelling. Founded in 1995 by neurodiverse artist Michael Faulker, D-Fuse boasts unparalleled experience in engaging mainstream audiences with social, ecological, and environmental issues through digital, interactive, and immersive art. D-Fuse has performed and exhibited internationally, including COP26 and British Film Institute (2021), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2005), TriBeCa Film Festival, NYC (2007), Prix Ars Electronica (2009), Mori Art Museum, Japan (2008), among others.
이진준 교수(KAIST 문화기술대학원)는 새로운 기술을 이용한 ‘경계공간경험(Liminoid Experience)’에 관한 연구 및 작품 활동을 하는 뉴미디어 아티스트이자 크리에이티브 디렉터이다. 그는 다학제적 연구와 예술 작업으로 국제무대에서 인정받아 영국왕립예술학회(Royal Society of Arts) 종신석학회원(FRSA)과, 영국왕립조각원의 정회원(MRSS)으로 선정되었다. 주로 콜라주 영상 작품, 미디어 설치 등을 통해 익숙한 풍경을 새로운 가상공간으로 탈바꿈시키며, 경계공간이라는 현실과 가상, 인간과 자연, 물질과 비물질, 아날로그와 디지털, 삶과 죽음 등 중첩되는 세계의 경계를 탐구하고 있다.
Prof. Jinjoon Lee (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Graduate School of Culture Technology) is a new media artist and creative director exploring the liminoid experience with new technologies. In recognition of the influence of his research and activities, he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), and a full-fledged member of the Royal Society of Sculptors (MRSS). He has mainly transformed familiar landscapes into a new virtual space through collaged video works, and media installations, exploring the boundaries of overlapping worlds such as reality and virtuality, humans and nature, matter and immaterial, analog and digital, and life and death, known as “Liminoid Experience."
